Headwaters Inc. is organizing a river cleanup at Campbell’s Branch Community Center from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Dec. 11.
“The river at Campbell’s Branch has suff ered a high level of pollution within the past few decades and it has left the stream toxic and unsuitable to drink from, fish in and can only support a very minimal amount of life,” said Clary Estes, OSM/VISTA and projects director of Headwaters Inc. “Pollution rages from everyday trash, like paper cups and napkins, to old cars and tires, and even mounds of coal ash, which if not removed will continue to threaten the health of the citizens living on the stream.”
Headwaters Inc. will provide trash bags, gloves, (both insulated and latex), hand sanitizer, informational pamphlets and Headwaters Inc T-shirts. Campbell’s Branch Community Center will provide a potluck meal.
Those participating should dress warm, and bring extra water and sturdy shoes or boots.
