Because of inclement weather and the large number of school closings across the region over the past two months, The Center for Rural Development is extending the application deadline for two of its summer youth leadership programs —Rogers Scholars and Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute ( ELI) — until Feb. 7. All paperwork must be mailed and postmarked by Feb. 7 to be considered.
Applications for the summer session of Rogers Scholars may be downloaded from a link on the Center’s Web site at www.centertech.com or directly from Rogers Scholars’ Web site at www.rogersscholars.com. Applications for ELI may also be found at www.centertech.com.
Rogers Scholars — the Center’s flagship youth program —provides leadership and college scholarship opportunities for rising high school juniors across southern and eastern Kentucky. The scholarships are offered by 15 colleges and universities, including Western Kentucky University, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Kentucky.
ELI focuses on creativity and teamwork and helps build business and entrepreneurial skills in high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors across the Center’s 42-county primary service region. Each member of the first-place winning team in ELI’s Business Concept Competition earns an offer of a Presidential Scholarship from Eastern Kentucky University.
The scheduled dates for summer sessions of Rogers Scholars are June 26-July 1 and July 10-15. ELI is scheduled for June 12-17. Both are held on the grounds of the Center in Somerset. Lodging, meals, and program expenses (excluding transportation costs to and from the host site) are provided free of charge to participating students.
