‘Roots and Branches’ performance set

Well folks, hope all of you are surviving this heat wave we are having. Little too hot for me. I like it warm with a little breeze, not hot and humid. I should not complain after the winter we just had.

Just be careful if out and about, don’t need any heat strokes.

Been very busy lately with play practice with the community play. “Roots and Branches” will be performed this week on Friday, June 17, and June 18 at the Cowan Community Center on 931 South. There’s a $5 admission fee and refreshments will be sold. Hope to see all of you there.

Big Cowan

Where would be a better place to go and have fun? Be entertained, cry and laugh. We have really worked hard to perform this. We did a sample of it at the Appalshop Theater for Seedtime.

My family reunion, Willie and Susan Fields, will be held July 2 at Shelter #2 at Kingdom Come State Park. Everyone invited. Bring a covered dish, dessert, plates and utensils, and bring instruments for singing later, if you want. From 10 a.m. – ?

We lost a few people lately who have roots on Cowan; Glen Flanary, brother of Sue Banks; Betty Trent, sister of Lorraine Stuart; and Danny Lucas.

Prayer list this week: Roy Wayne Fields, Teresa Sturgill, Darrell Holbrook, Brenda Stone, Kendall and Carol Ison, Morris Hackney Carolyn Taylor, Mike Fields, Archie and Margaret Fields, Irene and Eugene Day, Brenda Slone, Agnes and Anna Maggard, and Ken Hopson.

Happy fifth anniversary to Jessie and Ross Cline on June 18. They are parents of two beautiful children.

Happy 38th anniversary to Linda and Brack Sexton on June 19.

David Maggard has a birthday, and Matt Morton will be the big 50, both on June 20. Happy birthday, and I love and appreciate your ministry, Matt.

David W. Fields will be 82 years young on June 22, hang in there, cousin; Bobette Robbins and Big Will Caudill will celebrate on June 22. Will sings with Cross Country Bluegrass, one of my favorite groups.

Sorry to hear that David Tyler’s mother died. She was also an aunt to my friend Brenda Stone. Prayers for the family.

In memory, Deola Day died five years ago, and Hubert Fields also died, on June 19; Lindell Burdine Gilley died five years ago, and Thula Ison two years ago, both on June 21; Ann Collier, and Tommy Tolliver, both on June 24. All have left our homes but not our hearts. Prayers for all their families.

After our play is over, I will concentrate more on moving. Will have furniture and appliances and odds and ends. Hit me up if you need anything, 633-0439.

Mike is still in the hospital at Greenfield. Will be transferred back to Greensburg on June 20, then will be in a nursing home there for a little bit. He is still in good spirits except for wanting to smoke. They have been walking him two or three times a day. Not very far. Cannot put pressure on his foot.

Glad to see the new Taco Bell in Whitesburg is coming along so well. Hope it’s finished before I leave.

Trinity Full Gospel Church was invited Friday night to Colson Pentecostal Church. Pastor Darrell McBee preached that night. Then on Saturday night they were invited to Bion Deliverance Tabernacle Church at Wayland.

Praise Team from Thornton sang in both services, and June 18 they will be singing at the Eolia Community Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. They invite the public to attend.

Well folks, going to turn this in. Have a great week, stay cool, and may God bless.
