In recognition of National Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s 115th birthday, Rotarians Margaret Hammonds and Barbara Ison read the book “The Cat in the Hat” to Deborah Hall’s kindergarten class at Arlie Boggs Elementary on March 1.

Read Across America is an initiative created by the National Education Association that began in 1997 to encourage reading excitement in children of all ages. There was no lack of excitement in the class. The students were eager to share their love of books, their ages, the number of younger siblings, and lots of hugs before focusing their attention on “The Cat in the Hat” story.

Each child received a Dr. Seuss pencil, and the book was donated to class to enjoy again and again.
