Jenkins School District held its annual Back-to- School Bash at the Jenkins City Park on August 8. Approximately 200 children attended. In addition to receiving free backpacks filled with school supplies, they also enjoyed free hot dogs, chips, drinks, snow cones, magic show, and Mitch Whitaker and his falcon.

Rotarians Eileen Sanders and Sherry Wright registered children for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program during the Backto School Bash. Once registered children will receive a free book in the mail each month until they reach their fifth birthday, regardless of family income. If registered at birth, children can accumulate a library of approximately 58 books. There are currently 640 children in Letcher County who receive a free book in the mail each month.
