Rotary Club celebrates 80th year of service




 

 

The Whitesburg Rotary Club held a reception December 2 at Community Trust Bank in Whitesburg to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Attending were (front row) Bill Richardson, William Banks, Josephine Richardson, the Rev. Jerry Utt, Judith Vermillion, Jack Burkich, RC Day, Frances Day, Jake Sparkman, (second row) Sherri Kincer, Jenkins Mayor G.C. Kincer, Larry Legg, Ked Sanders, Marsha Banks, D.J. Frazier, Leigh Blankenbeckler, Eileen Sanders, Debbie Caudill, Rita Pratt, Dena Sparkman, Joan Curry, (back row) Whitesburg Mayor James Craft, Duran Sparkman, Roy Crawford, Cindy Legg, Carl Banks, Dr. Jim McDannel, Darrell Holbrook, Reed Caudill, Dr. Bill Collins, Jim Webb, Joe DePriest and Jack McAlister. The Whitesburg club was chartered on November 30, 1934, and is part of the not-for-profit international service organization Rotary International, which continues its work to eradicate polio worldwide. The local chapter consists of interested business and community members and sponsors college scholarships to high school seniors and participates in international student exchange programs. The local chapter also sponsors the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for all Letcher County children ages five and under and provides dictionaries to students in the third grade.
