Denise Yonts, Superintendent of Letcher County Schools; Ricky Rose, Property Valuation Administration for Letcher County; and Mike Watts, Circuit Court Clerk, were recently inducted as members of the Rotary Club of Whitesburg. Longtime Rotarian Jack Burkich performed the induction ceremony.
Members were presented with a Rotary pin which will identify them as one of more than 1.2 million business and professional members who belong to Rotary Clubs worldwide. These community leaders are part of an organization that was chartered in Letcher County on November 30, 1934. This year will mark the 85th year the Rotary Club of Whitesburg has been in operation.
Rotary is a service organization which focuses on local and international humanitarian efforts. Membership of the Rotary Club is made up of community leaders who are committed to improving the lives of individuals in Letcher County and worldwide. The Rotary Club of Whitesburg sponsors Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program, provides dictionaries to third-grade students in Letcher County, participates in Dr. Seuss Read Across America program, provides scholarships to high school seniors and college students living in Letcher County and working on their first degree, and supports the End Polio Now program.
