Barbara Ison, president of the Whitesburg Rotary Club, presented $100 to Whitesburg Middle School social studies teacher Tyler Bentley. The money assisted Bentley in taking nine students from the Gifted and Talented Program to attend the East Junior Kentucky Youth Assembly, part of the Kentucky YMCA program, in Louisville and Frankfort recently. The program gives students a firsthand look at how state government works. Students write their own bills, give speeches, debate the bills, and try to get other students to pass their bill. A bill written by WMS students was chosen to be presented inside the Kentucky Senate chambers in Frankfort.
