Rotary expands the Imagination Library

The Imagination Library is expanding to include Eolia and Partridge Zip Code areas. Registration will be held during Family Literacy Night at Arlie Boggs Elementary School on Tuesday April 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. To be eligible to register for the program, children must be under five years of age, and have a mailing address and 911 address of Eolia 40826 or Partridge 40862. All children under five years of age living in these areas are invited to register and will receive a free book.

The “ Imagination Library” founded by country music star Dolly Parton in 1996 and through local sponsors, provides free age appropriate books each month to children from birth until their fifth birthday regardless of family income. While the books are free to the children, costs to the Rotary Club of Whitesburg, the local sponsor, are approximately $30 per child per year.

The Imagination Library is now covering 13 of the 24 zip code areas in Letcher County since beginning in January 2012 and has 454 children receiving books.

To sponsor a child or make a tax deductible donation to the Imagination Library, make checks payable to Whitesburg Rotary Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 406, Whitesburg, KY 41858. For more information on how to bring this program to your area, or for information on how to enroll your child in the Imagination Library program, contact Margaret Hammonds at 633-8200 or Barbara Ison at 634-2106.

The Imagination Library is sponsored locally by The Rotary Club of Whitesburg.
