Roy ‘Karo’ Bentley dies at 88

Funeral services for Roy “Karo” Bentley, 88, of Payne Gap, were held July 13 at the Polly & Craft Funeral Home in Jenkins. Burial was in the Sam Bentley Cemetery at Payne Gap.

Born in Norton, Va., to the late Sam and Maybelle Branham Bentley, he died July 9 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home.

He was the father of the late Allen Bentley, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Theda Childers, and three brothers, Sammy, Manuel and Charles.

Mr. Bentley was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a longtime member of the Neon American Legion, Post 104. He enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball and NASCAR.

Surviving are two sons, Roy Bentley II of Payne Gap, and Jerry Bentley and wife Nina of Port Charlotte, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Ronald, Shawn, Barry, Morgan, Sammuel, Abigail, and Arianna; and 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
