Ruby Caudill dies at 99




Ruby Haynes Caudill, 99, of Carcassonne, died February 19 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

A daughter of the late Will and Katherine Haynes, she was also preceded in death by Clifton Caudill, her husband of 65 years; a daughter, Shelby Jean Caudill; five sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are three sons, Harold Caudill and wife Margaret of Lexington, Randall Caudill of Doty Creek and wife Linda, and Clifton Caudill Jr. and wife Verna Jean of Richmond; a daughter, Katherine Ann Webb of Lexington; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Isom Haynes of Louisville; a sister, Gladys Back of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was a devoted wife and her first love and highest priority in life was taking care of her home, her children, and her many grandchildren.

Mrs. Caudill retired as Carcassonne postmistress after 25 years. She was active in community affairs and loved square dancing, and she and her husband were always involved with events at the Carcassonne Community Center.

She was loved by all who knew her and will be long remembered and greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m., February 24, and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., February 25, at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Caudill Cemetery at Carcassonne.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, Carcassonne Community Center, or the James Memorial Church.
