Ruby Combs marks her 73rd birthday

Big Cowan

Hello everyone! Hoping everyone had a great week.

Happy birthday to Ruby Combs this week. She will be 73. She is such a sweet lady and is a regular at the Hemphill Friday Nite Pickin’. She was a nurse at Jenkins Hospital for many years. Cake and ice cream was good. Love you, Ruby.

Looking forward to hearing Dawson Creek this Friday at Hemphill. I bought one of their CDs and it is really worth listening to. Come on up. It starts at 7:30 p.m.

Happy birthday to Roger Eldridge on Aug. 24, also Enoch Sturgill. Jerry Fields will be 68 on Aug. 25 and my son Mike has a birthday on Aug. 26. He will be 43. Love you, son. Where has the time gone? Seems like yesterday you were three and sitting on my knee and now you are 43. I must be getting old.

Samantha Nicole Callihan will be 25 on Aug. 27.

In memory this week and next week: Carl Mullins died on Aug. 24 three years ago. Shannon Adams died one year ago on Aug. 30. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lorraine Adams. Thula Ison would have been 79 on Aug. 28. Bobby Bockover would have had a birthday on Aug. 31. Gone but not forgotten.

My sympathy goes to the family of Roger Younce who died last week.

Adam Day was in a car wreck last week, but is getting along pretty well. Prayers for him and his family for a speedy recovery.

Late happy birthday to Steve Dollarhide on Aug. 17.

Most of the college kids are getting read to go to school. Please keep them in prayer. Also, all the miners that are laid off and all the people that are sick and all the shut-ins and those that are in the hospital. Pray for our troops that they will stay safe, our president and our country and all the churches. Just pray for one another because times are getting harder for everyone.

It won’t be long until the festivals will be starting so the Hemphill Community Center will not be having Friday Nite Pickin’ the month of September. It will start back up the first Friday in October with Will Caudill and Rt. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

We have been having some great services at King’s Chapel Church. If you do not have a home church, please visit on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sometimes the crowd is not very big. The Bible says where two or three are gathered, I will be there also. You only get out of a service what you put into it. So come and worship with us.

Well folks, I gotta go for now. Stay well, stay safe. Have a good week. May God bless.
