Ruth Ison, 82, of Whitesburg, died September 27 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.
Mrs. Ison was a daughter of the late Thurston and Mattie Collins.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald Ison; three sons, Ellis Stephen Sturgill and Eugenia of Ermine, David Lynn Sturgill and Madonna of Jenkins, and Thurston Randall Sturgill of High Hat; five daughters, Rosa Gaye Day and David of Ermine, Lagena Ann Ison and Greg of Isom, Effie Elaine Scott and Larry of Dayton, Ohio, Ethel Diane Lowe and Ken of Ermine, and Nancy Dawn Bailey of Millstone; a brother, Windus; six sisters, Gayle Franklin, Pauline Bates, Norma Jean Adams, Rena Vae Sturgill, Vergie Halcomb, and Marietta Spangler; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Roy, Lester, Billy, Estill, Thurston Jr., Bobby Joe, and Jessie, and two sisters, Alberta and Ann.
Funeral services were held October 1 at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial was in the Kingdom Come Cemetery.
