This is the second letter I’ve received over the years from someone who wrote me about growing up on a farm.
This lady, who now lives in Letcher County, grew up on a small farm in Dickenson County, Virginia. Her dad returned from World War II not in the best of health.
When she read my story about me growing up on our 100-acre farm in Cane Branch, it brought back many memories. She and her mother did all the chores on their farm while her dad was overseas in the war. What little time she went to school, she had to walk five miles round trip.
Her late husband was a coal miner all his life. She is now my age, and the only one left of her family.
She says she is a very private person. I will write her a few words of encouragement. I’m trying to think of something to say to her.
