Scholarships offered




Elkhorn- Hazard Coal Land, LLC, is now accepting applications for the Roy Crawford Memorial Scholarships to be awarded for the spring semester of 2012.

There will be three scholarships of $500 each awarded to college students. All applicants must be residents of Letcher County, plan to work in eastern Kentucky upon graduation, and plan to enroll in a college for the spring semester. Preference will be given to applicants majoring in a field that will be beneficial to the coal industry but all applications are welcome. Selections will be based on academic achievement, personal character, and need.

Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 30, and may be picked up at the R.R. Crawford Engineering office at Whitco, near Whitesburg, on Highway #931, or can be mailed if requested. Awards for the scholarships will be made by Jan. 23. For more information, call 633-2226.

These scholarships honor the late Roy R. Crawford Jr. and his father, Roy Crawford Sr., who were both engineers and coal mine operators beginning with the founding of R.R. Crawford Engineering in 1925.
