The Blue Grass Council, Boy Scouts of America has honored R. Dudley Webb with the Boy Scouts of America North Star Award. Webb, chairman of the board and co-founder of The Webb Companies, has played a critical role in the success of Brave the Blue during its first two years as the signature event of the Blue Grass Council.
The event has grossed more than $260,000 and set a national fundraising record in 2012 for Over the Edge fundraisers hosted by Boy Scout Councils nationwide. Additionally, through Webb’s generosity, the local council has become increasingly more relevant.
“Although I am appreciative that the Boy Scouts are honoring me with their North Star Award, what I have tried to do for them doesn’t hold a candle to what they have done for me” Mr. Webb said. “I grew up in the small coal mining community of Hot Spot in Letcher County and it was through scouting that I and many others who lived there were introduced to the world through the programs and activities that they offered.”
Webb added, “Among my fondest memories are not only of our meetings and projects, but also their having afforded me an opportunity to attend the National Scouting Jamboree in Valley Forge as well as their Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base in Canada. I feel that the Boy Scouts of America have touched the lives of so many young men in such positive ways that the least that I can do now is to try to help to perpetuate the good works of this superb organization.”
The North Star Award is a highlevel recognition presented by Boy Scout councils on the behalf of the National Court of Honor for nonregistered volunteers who have made a significant contribution to Scouting.
The Webb Companies is one of the leading central Kentucky commercial real estate firms.
