A second test performed at the same time as a quick test that showed an inmate in the Letcher County Jail had Covid-19 has contradicted the first.
Jailer Bert Slone announced Saturday evening that the second test, which is sent to a lab and tested rather than being a quick test that can be analyzed within 10 minutes, showed the inmate was negative for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. The two tests are usually given together, with the second, more accurate test used to confirm or refute the first.
So far, the jail has had one employee confirmed positive earlier this year, but has had no inmates confirmed positive. Slone said then that inmates are isolated when they enter the jail and tested before being placed in the general population.
