Seedtime on the Cumberland set



Appalshop’s 26th annual Seedtime on the Cumberland will take place June 7 through the 9 at the Appalshop in Whitesburg. The festival kicks off on Thursday, June 7, with a special Bluegrass Express Live with Heather Berry & Tony Mabe as well as the Tommy Webb Band. On Friday, June 8 arts and crafts vendors and demonstrators of all sorts will open at 11 a.m. Local bluegrass music begins under the big tent at 4 p.m., featuring Custom Made Bluegrass, 7 South, Town Branch Bluegrass and others.

There will also be a book signing with Appalachian Studies pioneer Helen Mathews Lewis; Signs of Tales and Wonders, an original play directed by Angelyn Debord followed by a concert with Sparky & Rhonda Rucker; and Friday night will wrap up with the Clack Mountain String Band and Woody Pines.

Seedtime continues on Saturday, June 9 with a full day of arts and crafts vendors and demonstrators and more old-time mountain music. Saturday also features a number of special events including a guided hike to Bad Branch Falls, a Youth Old- Time Showcase, youth arts activities, literary readings, Old Regular Baptist lined-out hymn singing, a shape note singing workshop, the annual Youth Bored punk show, Appalshop film screenings, and the Carcassonne square dance.
