Seeks drink license

A restaurant in the final stages of construction has become the fourth establishment in the City of Whitesburg to formally announce its intention to apply for license to sell alcohol by the drink.

Summit City Coffee published a legal notice in this week’s edition of The Mountain Eagle stating its intention to apply for a restaurant liquor by the drink license “no later than July 23.”

The restaurant is expected to open soon in a Main Street building occupied since the mid- 1960’s by businesses ranging from The Melody Mart to The Q.R.S. The building was most recently occupied by the L.M. Caudill Law Office.

Summit City Coffee (Summit City was the original name of Whitesburg) is owned by Joel Beverly of Whitesburg.

Voters in Whitesburg last month approved a referendum allowing the sale of alcohol in restaurants that seat at least 100 patrons and derive at least 70 percent of their income from the sale of food.
