Well, Christmas on the Hill at the old Carr Creek High School last Saturday was amazing! You talk about decorated beautifully for Christmas, the volunteers did an outstanding job. It had been a really long time since I had been in the building. LKLP Head Start Central Office used to be in the upstairs and so as an employee during the years of 1993 to 2000 I was there many times. I love the wooden smell of the old gym.

Margaret Sue Nichols told us they are now booking events if you are interested in renting out the gym. If you are one of the many local photographers in the area and are looking for backgrounds for your shoots, this would be an excellent place. It has many scenes already set up or spaces you could put your own up. Family reunions or Christmas parties would be wonderful in this gym. They are also planning other craft and vendor events in the future. You can get in touch with Margaret Nichols if you are interested in any of this.

Sandy Jones and I got to see and talk to all kinds of people. I met one man from California that just decided four years ago after he and his wife lost all they had in one of the California wildfires, they were going to just pick any place on the map and move away and lo and behold, they ended up in Knott County. He told me something that I never knew about outhouses. People used to throw things they wanted to get rid of that wouldn’t burn down the toilet hole. He said lots of people now go around looking for where toilets used to be and dig for antiques. I don’t ever remember any of our family ever doing this, but I guess they did because they didn’t have anywhere else to do away with metal or glass or things that wouldn’t burn. So, if you want some antiques just go ask somebody where their john used to be.

I want to tell you a funny on our little Canaan James Holbrook. I’m the one that goes to the stores for Mom, but the sisters send me the store list. Well, my sister Delores and Canaan were with Mom and she asked Canaan if there was anything he wanted me to get him from the store. Of course, he said he wanted an excavator. I asked Delores what kind and she said he didn’t need one. A Thanksgiving turkey wasn’t on her list but I found it at a really good deal and so when I brought the groceries in and put them in the floor, there was that great big old turkey wrapped in a yellow plastic thing. Canaan obviously didn’t know what it was and asked, “Hots at?” Before I thought about it I just blurted out, “That’s an excavator.” Of course he said, “Open it.” I just laughed and told him I was just kidding, but he thought I just didn’t want him to open it right then and kept asking me to open it. After about five minutes of me trying to find a way out of that mess, I told Delores I had to go get my groceries home and I was going to leave her to deal with it. The end of the story though is about three days later he wanted turkey for dinner that evening.

I found out last week from Debbie Baker the Letcher County Senior Citizens are now meeting at the Letcher County Rec Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are also still doing the drive through lunches Monday through Thursday but also serving lunches inside on Tuesday and Thursday. I am so excited for the seniors to finally get a little bit of normalcy back in their lives. Hopefully I can get in there this week and see some of my good friends.

Please be praying for David Fisher, this is David and Kae Fisher’s uncle. He was admitted to UK Friday night with a brain tumor. Many others that are still fighting cancer, like Brandon Robinson and Camden Cook, are depending on us in our area to be praying for God to help them. Also, remember Rob Watts. He had heart bypass surgery Tuesday the 16th in Lexington. Then there are all those that have lost loved ones like my pastor Bill Jones and his wife Sandy. They can always use our prayers.

Happy birthday to Teresa Dixon on the 11th, ReAnna Bates Caudill on the 13th, Jewel Eldridge on the 14th, Melinda Whitaker on the 15th, Lettie Faye Toler, Angel Johnson, and Hannah Lucas on the 17th, Lisa Souther and Virginia Faye Weaver on the 18th, Billie June Craft Richardson and Verdia Jo Champion on the 20th. There were also two wedding anniversaries I wanted to mention, George and Betty Kincer celebrated their 63rd anniversary on the 13th and David and Lisa Ison celebrated their 9th anniversary on the 14th.
