Seniors attend health screening

We had our big Valentine party on Tuesday, Feb. 14. I had prior commitments and wasn’t there, so here is the report from those who were:

“ The food was delicious, Lee’s chicken plus all the good stuff our ladies brought in. There was a beautiful red velvet cake donated by Community Trust Bank and made by Abby Wynn.

“We had lots of prizes. Doris Bentley won $10 for guessing how many candy hearts were in a jar. She guessed the exact amount.

“Hobert Bentley won $10 for being from the farthest away; Janice Foster won the big teddy bear; and Betty Newman won a Valentine candy. There were also several smaller gifts.”

Thursday, 18 of our seniors went to the health screening at Pine Mountain Grill. Whitesburg ARH held this. They checked blood sugar, oxygen, cholesterol and blood pressure.

They fed us a hearthealthy breakfast of oatmeal, wholewheat toast, yogurt and fruit.

Dena Sparkman and Rachel Breeding were great hostesses. The nurses and techs from the hospital were also great.

Dr. Chandra’s office gave us big coffee mugs and ARH gave us some nice things, too. Lizzie Mae Wright and Doug Wright won door prizes.

We also saw several of our friends from the other senior citizens centers. Katherine Oden and Joe Walker, as well as most of us, got good reports.

Debbie Slone took several of our group shopping after the health screening. Alice Bentley said the lady who owns the antique shop at Isom told her she was going to cook pinto beans outside in a big iron kettle and bake cracklin’ bread.

Her name is Gwen Rollins. She said she would call us to come and eat. She won’t have to call but one time — we will be there.

Prayer list: Martha Harris, Jack Stallard, Ruby Caudill, Clark Baker, Joe Bentley, Lorraine Kuracka, Patty Majority, and Louise Joseph.

Thought from Daily Bread: “God speaks through His word to those who listen with their heart.”
