Merry Christmas from the Kingscreek Senior Center. We had our Christmas party on Dec. 20 with a lot in attendance.
Bringing food and gifts were Loreva Fields, Cathy Ingram, Jona Fields, Uhula Miller, Sue Williams, Faye Herron, Erva D. Hart, Colleen Cornett, Genita Callihan, Mae Boggs, Ethel Banks, Margie Sturgill, Lorene Hampton, Arnold and Elaine Mullins, George Roark, Steve Audie Fields, Victoria Ingram, Marvin Herron, Bill Meade, and Danny Bert Fields, and of course I was there.
Bill Meade and Danny Bert Fields brought us a stocking from the Kingscreek Fire Department.
Eugene Slone, a deputy with the sheriff ’s department, ate with us and took an individual picture of each of us. Thank you, Eugene Slone and the sheriff ’s office.
Everyone seemed pleased with all the gifts they received. I know I was.
As a native Letcher Countian I would like to get on my soapbox for a moment. I attended the Kids Day at Marlow Tackett’s Christmas for the Needy. There were a lot of people there and the usual problems that go with such a project.
My complaint is that I never heard the Christmas story told, no reading from Luke, or even ‘ The Night Before Christmas.’ What I did hear was a song of hate toward gays. Isn’t there enough hate in the world without preaching it to children at Christmas?
Thank you for letting me get that off of my chest and on to other things.
One of our girls, Vernetta Roark, lost her husband this week. Our hearts go out to her.
I’d better get this in the mail if I want it in the paper.
If you are making any New Year’s resolutions, be sure to include more hugs and kisses for your fiends and family.
Until next week, be good or be good at it.
