I hope you have had a great week.
Our neighborhood lost a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and teacher. Melanie Blair lost her very valiant fight with cancer. I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Our center has been very busy this week. On Tuesday, we went to Pine Mountain Settlement School for a visit. Nell Fields, who is very familiar with the school was our tour guide.
Driving onto the property gave you a feeling of such peace and tranquility. Our first stop was Laurel House, which has lodging for both men and women. Upstairs is the main dining room.
We were welcomed in by Joyce Scearse, supervisor of the kitchen. She offered us coffee, water and juice.
We were left to wander around and look as we wished. The church was a majestic building, so peaceful feeling. Later we traveled over the grounds and had a picnic lunch in the park.
Arnold Mullins and I even had to try the slide. Some of us never grow up.
After a short visit at the gift shop, we came home.
If you’ve never been to visit the Pine Mountain Settlement School, plan on visiting soon. It is one of our hidden treasures.
Going from our center were Faye Herron, Judy Eldridge, Harold Day, Arnold Mullins, Margie Sturgill, Kathy Ingram, our manager, and Nell Fields.
Thursday we had the annual Senior Games. We only had a few going, Harold Day, Kathy Ingram, Jona Fields and myself.
The group from the Blackey Center rode over with us. Their group consisted of Shirley Caudill, site manager, Lawton Sexton, Linda Jones and Claudia Banks.
Letcher County won lots of medals. Our cheerleaders took Best Costume, 1st place in Cheer Only, and 1st place in Dance Only.
From our own center, Jona Fields took 1st in Washer Toss, and 1st in Shuffleboard. Harold Day took 3rd place in Walking and 3rd place in Spin Casting.
As I watched all the seniors walk up to receive their medals I felt such pride. They all had big smiles and were acting like they really enjoyed these games.
If you are a senior, come join a center near you. It is fun and very worthwhile.
I am tired, so I’d better get ready to put this in the mail. Smile and be thankful for even the small things in your life.
Take care of yourself, you deserve it. Bye for this week.
