Service brings memories

Cowan

Sunday was a perfect day for our memorial service at the Hop Gibson Cemetery. The weather was ideal, the cemetery well mowed and clean, the graves beautifully decorated.

It brought back memories of the good old days when so many of those now in the graves were still with us. But life goes on and things are much the same. The singing was still beautiful and the preaching good.

There were four generations present from several different families, but when we all come together it feels as we are one. There were children strolling on the hillside as we used to do, making their memories.

In those days, we seemed to often have a rain shower before the day was over. I remember once when the ladies were in their new crepe dresses when the dresses got wet they all started shrinking.

In those days we had “dinner on the ground” served from sawhorse tables. We still have the good dinner but eat it at the church house in our convenient modern kitchen.

I heard that there is to be a gigantic yard sale on Saturday, June 2, starting at 9 a.m. It will be about two-thirds of a mile up Little Cowan. They will have an antique occasional table over 100 years old with glass ball and claw feet, two heavy antique end tables, two handmade wooden chairs, a TV set, a large microwave oven, name brand ladies’ jeans sizes 6 to 22, other clothing including plus sizes, and other odds and ends too numerous to mention. For more information, call 633-0934.
