Burnette Hurston Tackett, 93, died Monday, January 25, at his home in Deane. Born in Beefhide to the late Silas “Si” and Inus Cook
Tackett, he was the widower of Rosa Maryland Meade-Tackett.
He was the father of the late Linda Gail Fields and Glenda Jeanette Johnson, and was also preceded in death by 11 siblings, Lowell Thomas, George Smith, Daniel Van, Johnnie, McKinley, Curtis, Rush, Johnce Tackett, Sarah, Aileen and Allie. Having lived most of his life in Letcher County, he was a member of the Church of Christ for more than 70 years.
Mr. Tackett was a family man, and loved spending time with this grandchildren, and riding and showing horses.
He is survived by a son, Gary Tackett and wife Della; a daughter, Sandra Little; a son-in-law, Alfred Fields; 13 grandchildren, Sletta Cerra,
Wayne Tackett and wife Cathy, Michelle Fields, Angela Church and husband Scotty, Garry Neal Tackett and wife Debbie, Alfred Fields and wife Jammie, Amanda Johnson and husband Brian, Kevin Little and wife Missy, Rebecca Johnson, Matthew Fields and wife Brandie, John-Michael Fields and wife Taylor, and Joseph Ingram; 26 greatgrandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Tackett were held Wednesday, January 27, at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Burial was in the Tackett Cemetery at Deane.
