Services are held for Chalmer Engle




Funeral services for Chalmer Engle, 78, of Whitesburg, were held February 17 at Everidge Funeral Home. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.

A son of the late Troy and Mattie Boggs Engle, he was born in Letcher County. He died February 15 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home.

Engle was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was the chaplain for the Whitesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years. He had worked at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital and Mountain Comprehensive Health Care before retiring. He was a member of the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church at Kona.

He was a brother of the late Troy Engle Jr. and Olga Engle Hampton, and the father-in-law of the late George Randle Hale.

Survivors include his wife, Goldie Mullins Engle; two sons, Charlie Engle, St. Paul, Va., and Robert Bain Engle and wife Tonia, Jenkins; a daughter, Vera Engle Hale, Whitesburg; two brothers, Charles Engle, Kona, and Willie Howard Engle, Lorain, Ohio; three sisters, Jean Hunsucker, Eolia; Nina Hobbs, Neon; and Mae Sowards, Pound, Va.; seven grandchildren, Mariah Gribble, Chatsworth, Ga.; Nichols Engle, Bristol, Tenn. Isaiah Engle, St. Paul, Va.; Samuel Fraley and Luke Engle, both of Pound, Va.; and Jason Tillet and Jarod Hayes, both of Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Mason, both of Chatsworth, Ga.
