Services are held for Donald Pennell




Funeral services for Donald G. Pennell, 75, of Pound, Va., were held August 14 at the Glady Fork Chapel in Pound. Burial was in the Rob Ratliff Cemetery at Shelby Gap.

A son of the late John and Delsie Johnson Pennell, he was born at Shelby Gap. He died August 11 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

He was married to the late Betty Jean Reese Pennell, and after her death married Teresa Huff Pennell, who survives him. He was a brother of the late Tex Carson Pennell and Olles Pennell.

Pennell and was a retired teacher who had taught at Dorton and Shelby Valley High Schools in Pike County.

A graduate of the Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., he was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Robin Haggerty and husband Leo of Middlesboro, Tammy Hamzehpour and husband Bijan of Minneapolis, Minn., Vivian P. Banks and husband Jack of Whitesburg, Regina P. Chisenhall and husband Terry of Wise, Va., and Laura Pritchard of Pound, Va.; two sons, Greg Pennell and wife Gwenna of Jenkins, and John Mark Pennell and wife Jennifer of Wasilla, Ark.; three sisters, Carol Burke of Fleming-Neon, Margrett Newsom of Jenkins, and Norma Jean Pennell of Russellville, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Pennell of Jenkins; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
