Services are held for Eugene Burton





Eugene Burton, 78, of Partridge, died August 30 at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville.

Born in Owsley County, he was a son of the late Wilson and Lillie Smith Burton. He was married to the late Imogene Scott Burton, and was the father of the late Saundra Kay Burton.

Burton was a retired coal miner and had worked for 36 years for U.S. Steel Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and attended Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church and Sandhill Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Sept. 2 at the Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church. Burial was in the Scott Oakland Cemetery at Cumberland.

Surviving are four children, Donnie Burton and wife Rhonda, Linda Craiger, Debi Sexton and husband Billy, and Sharon “Doodle Bug” Burton; five grandchildren, Jami Benning, Donnie Ray Burton, Andrew Burton, Tre Sexton, and Jacob Craiger; four great-grandchildren, David Benning, Braydon Burton, Jade Burton, and Zachary Austin; a brother, Hubert Burton; and a sister, Wanda Collier.
