Services are held for Hiram Johnson




Hiram ‘Johnnie’ Johnson Jr., 77, of Clinton, Md., died August 3 in Selbyville, De.

A son of the late Hiram and Savanna Sturgill Johnson, he was born in Whitesburg. He was graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1947 and was a member of the band. He also worked at the old Kentucky Theater on Main Street.

Johnson joined the Air Force in 1949, and was one of the first selected to then new U.S.A.F. Security Service. He also worked at the SAC headquarters, the European Electronic Intelligence Center, and the A.F.S.C. at Andrews Air Force Base. Retiring from the Air Force after nearly 25 years, Johnson then joined the Civil Service.

He was a member of the Clinton American Legion Post 259 for more than 30 years, and had served as post commander.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Penney Johnson; five children, Stephen Johnson, Fredricksburg, Va.; Alan Johnson, Edgewater, Md.; Debra Johnson Stephenson, Selbyville, De.; Gary Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson, both of Clinton, Md.; a brother, Clifford Johnson, Ona, W.Va.; a sister, Mary Caudill, Ona, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
