Services are held for Jim Spangler




Funeral services for James Edward “Jim” Spangler, 62, were held October 16 at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial was in the Sexton family cemetery.

Born in Portsmouth, Va., he was a son of the late John Edward and Rose Della Webb Spangler. He lived most of his life at the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and made his home in Letcher County since 1986.

He died October 14 at his home at Jackhorn.

Spangler had been a deputy sheriff in North Carolina and a police officer in Fleming-Neon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a member of the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Police, and Grace Fellowship Baptist Church. He also helped at East Letcher Ministries.

Surviving are his wife, Louvonne Sexton Spangler; a daughter, Amy Joanne Spangler, Jackhorn; five sons, George D. Terry, Rochester, N.H.; James E. Spangler Jr., Raynor L. Spangler, and Michael Spangler, all of Grandy, N.C.; and Adam K. Sexton, Jackhorn; a sister, Joyce C. McMath, Aylett, Va.; four brothers, Dan Spangler, Largo, Fla.; Richard Spangler, Newport News, Va.; Mitchell Spangler, Redondo Beach, Calif.; and Bob Spangler, Mayking; a niece, Brenda Williams, Newport News, Va.; two grandsons, and two granddaughters.
