Services are held for Owen Sexton




Funeral services for Owen Sexton were held February 21 in Wise, Va. Burial was in the Day Cemetery in Whitesburg.

Born at Thornton, he was a son of the late Ila and Dewey Richardson and was the widower of Jean Bates Sexton. He was the father of the late Sheila Rose Sexton and was a brother of the late Bennett Sexton, Buford Sexton, Agnes Crawford, and Pat Brown. He died February 17.

During his 12 years of school, Sexton never missed a day. He often rode the train to attend Whitesburg High School. After graduation he worked at the coal company commissary.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5829 in Whitesburg, and the USS Zellars Reunion Committee.

Sexton worked for the RC Bottling Company in Wise, Va., and Coca-Cola in Norton, Va., for 45 years until his retirement. He and his wife spent the next 10 years traveling in their RV.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Johnson, Norton, Va.; a son, Micheal Sexton and wife Patti, Manhattan, Kansas; grandchildren, Jeannie Forrester, Amanda Johnson, Jessica Dill, and David Sexton; and great-grandchildren, Grant, Nicholas, Luke, Carson, Alayna, Evalyn, Cara, and Evan.
