Services are set for Vester Mullins

Vester ‘Possum’ Mullins, 74, of Eolia, died August 22, at the Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee.

A son of the late Jonas Mullins and Sarah Maggard Mullins, he was a stepson of the late Alice Hampton Mullins.

He was a brother of the late Versa Brock, Dorothy Mullins, Mary A. Mortz, Lester, Ted, Keith and Johnny Mullins, and a stepbrother of the late Fred Hampton,

Mullins was a coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 20, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne G. Mullins; a daughter, Brenda Roberts and husband James ‘J-Bird’ of Pound, Va.; three sons, Raymond Mullins and wife Donna, Eolia, Michael Mullins and wife Debbie, Somerset, and Timothy Mullins and wife Kammi, Pound, Va.; two sisters, Blanche Hubbard and Betty Anderson, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; three stepsisters, Betty Sue Sturgill, Pound, Va., Peggy Sturgill, Eolia, and Deloris Engle, Payne Gap; two friends, Eilliam L. Mullins, Eolia, and Bo Short, Pound, Va.; eight grandchildren, Melissa Morton and husband Brad, Whitesburg, Lester Mullins and wife Brandi, Eolia, Jesse Roberts and wife Amanda, Big Stone Gap, Va., Becky Roberts, Pound, Va., Olivia Mullins, Pound, Va., Chandler Mullins, Pound, Va., Katie Mullins and Hailey Mullins, both of Somerset; and two great-grandchildren, Raymond ‘Little Man’ Barnett and Jason Evan Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in Pound, Va. Burial will be in Mullins family cemetery at Eolia.
