Hassie Short, 91, of Jackhorn, died March 19 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A daughter of the late Town and Mary Blair Hall- Yonts, she was a stepdaughter of the late Ernest Yonts and the widow of Mick Short. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Allie Wright, and a half-sister, Wilma Sue.
Mrs. Short was a member of the Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. She loved flowers, gardening, canning and the University of Kentucky Wildcats, and enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and feeding hummingbirds.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby Short and wife Judy, Jackhorn, and Sammy Short and wife Lorry, Fleming- Neon; grandchildren, Lori Kelly and husband James, Hazard, Kimberly Fletcher and husband Kevin, Safety Harbor, Fla., Tyler Short and wife Beronica, and Samantha Short and friend Jake Dollarhyde, all of Fleming- Neon; great-grandchildren, Brett Kelly, Sara Fletcher and Sean Fletcher; a sister, Mallie Smith, Avon Lake, Ohio; half-brothers, Leon and Larry; half-sisters, Joyce, Lois and Eula Ann; and a niece, Allison Helton of Deane.
Visitation will take place Thursday, March 22, after 2 p.m. at Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 23, at Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Mayking.
