Services held for Bernice Bates



Bernice Bates, 66, died January 25 at her home in Waynesburg.

Born in Letcher County to Martha Caudill Fields, now of Waynesburg, and the late Lee Fields, she was a sister of the late Hiram Fields.

She had worked for more than 25 years as the Waynesburg postmaster and was retired from the Perryville Post Office.

She was a co-founder of Waynesburg Pioneer Days.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ronnie Bates; four daughters, Shelley Mc- Guffey and husband Scott, April Slone and husband Jason, and Trista Elkins and husband Daniel, all of Waynesburg, and Brandy Cotton and husband Greg, of Danville; a brother, Larry Fields and wife Judy of Richmond; a sister, Evelyn Louise

Pentzien and husband Roger of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon, January 30, at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, in Waynesburg. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.
