Georgie ‘Papaw’ Russell Fleming, 94, died Sept. 16 at his home in Howell, Mich.
Born at Beefhide, he was a son of the late George and Louisa Fleming. He was a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Paris, Tenn.
Fleming owned and operated a number of coal mines in Letcher County, and later owned and operated two variety stores in Ypsilanti, Mich., before retiring to Paris, Tenn. In 2006, he moved to Howell, Mich.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Margaret Fleming; two sisters, Jeanette Conley Willie and husband Bob, Loveland, Ohio, and Irene Sehorne and husband Doug, Lexington; seven children, Sue Harlow and husband Max, Howell, Mich.; Glenna DeAngelis and husband Don, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Larry Fleming and Roger Fleming, both of Inverness, Fla.; Jerry Fleming and wife Bridget and David Fleming and wife Mari, all of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and Rhonda Fleming of Howell, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 20 at Washtenong Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
