Services held for Homer Johnson




Funeral services for Homer Bernard Johnson, 85, of Marshall’s Branch, were held August 4 in Jenkins. Burial was in the Johnson Cemetery at Marshall’s Branch.

Born at Marshall’s Branch, he was a son of the late Hassell and Bessie Johnson. He was the widower of Betty Robinson Johnson, a brother of the late Guy Johnson, and the father-in-law of the late Glenn Potter. He died August 2 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg.

Johnson was a retired school teacher, and had taught in Pike County for 33 years. He was a graduate of Pikeville College and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served as clerk for the Letcher County Conference for about 20 years, and was a member of Marshall’s Branch Freewill Baptist Church, where he was also a deacon.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice Potter and Tabatha Toth and husband Billy, all of Jenkins; a son, David Johnson and wife Janet, Russell Springs; six grandchildren, Danny, Kim, Steven, Jessica, Brittany, and Andrea; six greatgrandchildren, Jordan, Aaron, Adam, Hannah, Eli, and Harley; three sisters, Lucille Bentley and Viola Williams, both of Jenkins, and Gladius Hiatt, Iowa; and a brother, Arlie Johnson, Florida.
