Funeral services for Johnny Emory Greene, 74, of Bean Station, Tenn., were held January 16 at Everidge Funeral Home.
A son of the late Martin and Athleen Hall Greene, he was born in Wise, Va. He died January 12 at Morristown Hamblen Health Care System in Morristown, Tenn.
Mr. Greene worked for several coal companies and in 1990 was hired by the Department of Mines and Minerals. He held several different positions with the department and was Executive Director at the time of his retirement. He was also very active in mine rescue.
He enjoyed being on the lake, gardening, playing bass guitar in church, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Howard Greene; three sons, Kevin Greene and wife Ashley of Louisville, Kelly Greene and wife Megan of Frankfort, and Jerome Hatton and wife Crystal of Whitesburg; two daughters, Mindy Greene of Gainesville, Ga., and Tabatha Hatton of Ashland, Ohio; six sisters, Anita Whitaker of Bean Station, Tenn., Annette Yonts of Jenkins, Priscilla Howard and Patricia Blackson, both of Rutledge, Tenn., Tina McElroy of Payne Gap, and Martina Yonts of Kona; a brother, Joe Greene of Jenkins; and 12 grandchildren, Corey, Jacob, Andrew, Harrison, Parker, Knox, Jacob, Makala, Elijah, Preston, Cooper and Morgan.
