Martin Carol “Marty” Bentley, 61, of Palatka, Fla., died Sunday, June 17, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Florida after a brief illness.
Born in Kona to the late Dewey Thomas and Rose Brummett Thomas, she was a sister of the late Joe Spurgeon and Arthur Thomas.
Mrs. Bentley worked the past 12 years as a certified nursing assistant at Palatka Health Care Center in Florida.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, fishing, bowling, card games, scratch-off lottery and playing the fish tables.
Surviving are her husband of 21 years, John Hansford; four daughters, Karina Collins and William McDonald of Palatka, Fla., Dorothy Fuller and husband Vincent of McDonough, Ga., Kimberly Helmick and husband Jason of Grand Junction, Col., and Misty Reese and husband Ronnie of Erwin, Tenn.; her adopted daughter, Danielle Hill and husband Randy of Interlachen, Fla.; seven brothers, Frank Spurgeon and wife Shawnee, and Stevie Thomas and wife Melanie, all of Cleveland, Oh., Bill Spurgeon and wife Thelma of Petersburg, W.Va., James Thomas and wife Clara of Lexington, N.C., William Walter Thomas and wife Lynne of Oak Hill, W. Va., and Gary Thomas and wife Nadine of Interlachen, Fla.; a sister, Fanny Arlene Stanley and husband Buck of Interlachen, Fla.; eleven grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Bentley were held June 23 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka, Fla.
