Funeral services for Minton Vernon Sergent, 61, were held May 2 at Bill Moore Branch Holiness Church. Burial was in the Bill Moore Branch Cemetery.
A son of Bernice ‘Johnnie’ Dixon Sergent and the late Owen Sergent, he died April 29 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.
He was a grandfather of the late Abigail Sergent, and was a member of the Bill Moore Branch Holiness Church.
He was a retired coal miner from U.S. Steel and Arch of Kentucky, and had served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 3rd Platoon, BCO 1st ITR at Parris Island, S.C.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife, Jewel Morris Sergent; eight children, Vernon Sergent Jr. and wife Summer, Stacey Moore and husband Adam, Nicholas Sergent and wife Mary, Robyn Cochran and husband Brent of Georgia, Robby Sergent of California, Ryan Sergent, Bryan Sergent and wife Belinda, and Joey Sergent of Cumberland; nine grandchildren, Ivie, Hannah, Breanna, Azlynn, Chloee, Briley, Annabelle Sergent, and Blake and Aden Cochran; and four brothers, Ira Sergent and wife Ernestine, Charles ‘Hyde’ Sergent, Virgil Sergent and wife Adah, and David Sergent and wife Kathy.
