Services held for Nettie Remke

Nettie Elizabeth “Chris” Adams Remke, 80, died March 23.

Born in Letcher County to the late Andrew James and Martha Sexton Adams, she was the widow of John “Jack” Remke and a sister of the late James Adams and Paul Adams.

As a teenager her family moved to Cincinnati, but she loved her childhood home of southeastern Kentucky, and always took pride in being a coal miner’s daughter.

She was a real estate worker from the 1960s until 1990s, then became a caregiver providing home health care for the elderly.

In a 2014 interview for the Oak Hills Nursing Home newsletter, she was asked why she liked selling real estate. Her response was “I enjoyed it because I made people happy.”

Surviving are two sons, John Remke and wife Stacy Turner Remke of Cincinnati, Oh., and Steve Remke and wife Brenda Layton Remke of St. Marks, Fla.; two grandsons, Benjamin and Thomas Remke; two brothers Eugene Adams and wife Mae, and Charles Adams and wife Cathy; and a sister-in-law, Margie Adams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Queen City Hospice, The Cincinnati Association for the Blind, the American Diabetes Association, or any charity.

Visitation and a brief memorial service will be held on Friday, April 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home, 4619 Delhi Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
