Owen Edward Pace, Sr., 78, of Columbus, Ind., passed away from this life December 30 at his home with his family.
Mr. Pace was born February 22, 1942 in Kodak, a son of Vernon Pace and Delcie Craft Pace.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Barbara Fleenor on December 26, 1964. After his service was completed in the Army he followed his family to Indiana, but in his heart, Kentucky was always home.
He retired from Cummins Engine Company where he worked for almost 30 years. After retirement he focused on his two great loves, his family and Jesus. He was an elder at the Church of the New Covenant in Austin, Ind.
Mr. Pace played harmonica and sang in the church choir and with his family whenever they were together. His hobbies were playing golf, watching football and being outdoors. He loved to help his neighbors and lend a hand to anyone in need. He also adored his only grandchild, Hannah.
Survivors include his daughter, Trish Lawson and husband Randy; granddaughter, Hannah Lawson; siblings, Benny Pace and wife Cheryl Jean, and William Pace and wife Wanda, all of Columbus, Ind., Joe Pace and wife Peggy of Freetown, Ind., Judy Brown and husband Art, and Betsy Lambert and husband Mark, all of Columbus, Ind., and Vauldra Baily and husband Ron of Westport, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Eva Pace of Freetown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Owen E. Pace, Jr.; two brothers, Jerry Pace and Gary Pace; a niece, Karla Pace; and a nephew, Dennis Brown.
A private visitation and funeral service was conducted at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Past Jacob Howell officiating. Burial was at Old Becks Grove Cemetery in Freetown. Full military honors were presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
