Funeral services for Joan Fleming ‘Memaw’ Johnson, 73, were held March 24 at Hemphill Baptist Church. Burial was in the Fleming family cemetery at Long Fork.
Born in Etty, she was a daughter of the late Rollie Edward and Roxie Miller Fleming, and a stepdaughter of the late Alpha Stewart Fleming. She died March 22 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard.
She was a retired coal miner, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America and Hemphill Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Randy Johnson of Payne Gap, and Dennis Ray Johnson and wife Lisa and Timothy Johnson and wife Sonda, all of Manassas, Va.; four daughters, Patricia Ann Combs of Lost Creek, Dianne Day and husband Tony of Rutledge, Tenn., Renda Kay Taylor and husband Dan, of Raleigh, N.C., and Contrena Potter and husband Jody of Burdine; four brothers, Wilson Fleming and wife Alice of Long Fork, Douglas Fleming of Hyden, Bruce Fleming of Kelso, Wash., and Carl Fleming and wife Anita of Prince George, Va.; two sisters, Genevieve Little and husband Lester of McRoberts, and Geneva Dennison of Alma, W.Va.; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
