Services held for Ruby Maggard




Funeral services for Ruby Jean Maggard, 76, were held June 9 at Everidge Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Mrs. Maggard died June 6 at Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

Born in Letcher County to the late Dock and Melissa Adams Shepherd, she was the widow of James Tate Maggard.

Mrs. Maggard was a foster parent for 28 years, having cared for more than 250 children. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are three sons, Dallas Maggard, James Allen Maggard and wife Darlene, all of Cowan, and Larry Gale Maggard and wife Hester of Bill Moore Branch. Also surving are a sister, Velma Slone of Cowan; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maggard was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Maggard, a sister, Bulah Boggs, and brothers Astor, Castel and Arthur.

Burial was in Obey Elkins Cemetery at Cowan.
