Services held for Ruth Jones Lewis




Ruth Jones Lewis of Chandler, Ariz., died at Hospice of the Valley in Tempe, Ariz., after a long illness. She was 88 years old.

Born in Letcher County, she was a daughter of the late J.W. “Buck” Jones Jr. and Eliza Collier Jones. She was married to the late Thomas G. Lewis.

In 1937, Mrs. Lewis was graduated from the Sayre School in Lexington. She attended Centre College and Georgetown College in Georgetown. She then enrolled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she was graduated with a degree in business administration in 1942.

Mrs. Lewis and her husband, who was an officer in the U.S. Navy, lived in Newport, R.I.; Ogden, Utah; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Pensacola, Fla. After her husband retired from the Navy, the couple lived in Lexington, then moved to Gilbert, Ariz.

Surviving are her son, Thomas W. Lewis and wife Jan, and grandsons, Tom Jr., John and Michael of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Karen Lewis Taylor of Chandler; a granddaughter, Tamsyn Elizabeth of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a first cousin, Henry Ed Wright, of Johnson City, Tenn.
