Ida Lee Hensel, 84, died August 7 at Pikeville Medical Center.
A daughter of the late Howard and Ruby Walker Stacy, she was the widow of John Thomas Hansel Jr. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Sexton; a son, Jonathan Hansel; a brother, Lawrence Stacy; and a sister, Thelma Joseph.
Mrs. Hansel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spartanburg, S.C. She began working in law as a secretary when she was a sophomore in high school and continued as a paralegal until she was 76 years old.
She was a nationally and internationally published poet, and enjoyed reading, researching ancestry and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are a son, Mike Hensel and wife Abby of Prestonsburg; a daughter, Debbie Pennington and husband James of Whitesburg; four grandchildren, Brandon, Canaan, Kelli and Leah; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Mrs. Hansel will be held at 6 p.m., September 9, at Truth Ministries in Whitesburg. Burial will be in Green Acres Memorial Park in Ermine.
