Funeral services for Donald Lee Sparks, 49, will be held at noon today, August 31, in Whitesburg. Burial will follow in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
Born in Harlan to Eugene and Jeanette Scott Sparks of Mayking, he died August 27 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
He was graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1985, where he was a member of the marching band.
Mr. Sparksewas an honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Thornton Old Regular Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a son, Peyton Lee Sparks of Whitesburg; two brothers, Rickie Sparks and wife Jettie of Frankfort, and David Wayne Sparks and fiancé Melanie Sexton, of Whitesburg; four nieces, Alexis Sparks, Morgan and Marley Sparks, and Keora Hollyfield; a nephew, Kevin Hollyfield of Whitesburg; an aunt, Vel Spangler of Kettering, Oh.; a great-aunt who was like a second mother to him, Alice Kincer; and four uncles, Major Sparks and wife Ella of Whitesburg, Wendell Sparks and wife Shirley of Mayking, Jim Scott and wife Joan of McRoberts, and Ronald Scott and wife Martha of Huntsville, Ala.
