John Roy Hayes, 77, died October 27 at his home in Pound, Va.
A son of the late Robert and Minnie Short Hayes, he was a brother of the late Jacqueline Hayes, Kermit Hayes and Bobby Hayes, and an uncle of the late Jacqueline VanHuss.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clintwood, Va., and an honorary lifetime member of Glenmary Council 7853 of the Knights of Columbus, in which he held the offices of Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Recorder, Outside Guard, Trustee, Church Director, and Degree Team Chancellor. He was also Council Director for the Knights of Virginia Assisting the Retarded (KOVAR).
A coal miner for nearly years, he worked for Scotia Coal, Betty B Coal and Cumberland River Coal. He was also a former railroad employee and was a line supervisor for an aeronautical company.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Krzak Hayes; daughters, Theresa Wright and husband Bobby, Dorton, Angela Hayes, Cynthia Boggs and husband Jeffrey, and Eleanor Lynn Hall, all of Pound, Va., Donna Isaacs and husband Scotty, Castlewood, Va., and Elizabeth Harlow and husband Mike, Lincolnton, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; and friends, Tony Willis and Ronnie Freeman.
Funeral services will be held October 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Dewey Memorial Cemetery.
