Funeral services for Rev. Junior Waddles, 76, will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. Burial will be in the Thacker Cemetery at Dry Creek.
Born at Kite, he was a brother of the late Junella Thacker and Omery Waddles. He died March 14 at his home in Whitesburg.
Waddles was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was ordained by the First Baptist Church in Lodi, Ohio, and helped found churches in Lodi, Ashland, and Wooster, Ohio. He founded the Southern Baptist Church in Grafton, Ohio, was an evangelist and supply minister for churches in northern Ohio, and served as the interim pastor of the Lorain Baptist Church. He also worked at the General Motors plant in Brookpark, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Gillis Waddles; three children, Jack Waddles and wife Kathleen, Whitesburg; Omer Waddles and wife Shelly, Carmel, Ind.; and Sandra Seay and husband Luther, Kennesaw, Ga.; three sisters, Avonella Boyd and husband Bill, Trenton, Ohio; Rita Faye Stumbo and husband Stan, Hindman; and Nancy Conn and husband Jeff , Prestonsburg; two brothers, Paul Waddles and wife Pauline, Somerset, and Bruce Waddles, Richmond; six grandchildren, Morgan Waddles and fiancé Max Schroeder, Jason Waddles and Courtney Waddles, all of Whitesburg; Katie Waddles and Tyler Waddles, both of Carmel, Ind.; and Amelia Seay, Kennesaw, Ga.; and a nephew, Ryan Waddles and wife Kandi, Lexington.
