Services today for Winfred Campbell

WINFRED CAMPBELL

Winfred Campbell, 82, of Cumberland, died February 13 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Healthcare Center.

A son of the late Hizzie and Laura Jones Campbell, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Campbell and H.B. Campbell.

Mr. Campbell distinguished himself as records clerk in the officer’s records subsection, records and reports section of the military personnel branch, Walter Reed Army Medical Center August 12, 1965

During this time he demonstrated qualities far exceeding those of a person with his experience in the service and grade. His outstanding initiative, speed, accuracy, and devotion to duty, combined with his unusual ability to work with all personnel regardless of grade identified him as a truly outstanding soldier and clerk.

Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Campbell; a son, Todd Campbell of North Carolina; two daughters, Wendy Christian of Richmond, and Cindy Campbell of North Carolina; a sister, Janis Baker of Lexington; five grandchildren, Whitney Smith, Caitlin Cox, Megan Bevill, Dylan Bevill, and Karis Campbell; and three great-grandchildren, Parker Smith, Pierson Smith, and Camden Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 17) at Letcher Funeral Home Visitation will be at 12 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 17) at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Campbell family cemetery at Ulvah.
