Sheriff’s office says man selling drugs in ‘plain view’

Police arrested an Ohio man at a Letcher County motel after prescription narcotics were found in his possession.

James L. Yonts, 23, of Fostoria, Ohio, was arrested January 6 and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (OxyContin), second-degree possession of a controlled substance (suboxone), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Department said the arrest was made after the sheriff’s office received a tip that Yonts was selling drugs from a motel room at the Parkway Inn. Damron said hotel staff was notified before police entered the room in which Yonts was staying.

“In plain view in the hotel room were the drugs, paraphernalia and money,” said Damron.

Damron said Yonts is also wanted on a felony assault charge in Ohio, and that an extradition warrant has been issued.

Sheriff Danny Webb, Special Deputy Scott Taylor and Deputy Wade Adams, all with the sheriff’s department, and Kentucky State Police Trooper Derek Hall assisted in the case. Damron has charge of the investigation.
